ease your burden: share “seed” with your kids
I heard a dad say “it seems like anger is generational” as he shared a story about his son’s struggle with anger… and his own struggle with anger… and his father’s struggle with anger.
He was totally correct. Every human weakness is generational. It’s birthed from the fallen self-righteous seed of our first ancestors. All humans carry this genetic program of self-righteousness.
When you understand seed, you won’t be deceived into parenting with the devil’s wisdom. If you don’t understand seed, you might miss the entire point of your purpose on earth!
You were created to have—and parent with—God’s wisdom. St. Paul explained the truth about your life found in the Word of God is foolishness to those deceived by the devil’s seed. But by believing the Good News in God’s Words, you can receive all of God’s power!
Power for what? Political domination? Wealth building? Better parenting? No. The Word of God contains God’s power for your transformation! New birth from God’s original good seed! New birth into God’s original good DNA!
St. Peter explained: “You have been born anew not of perishable but imperishable seed through the living and enduring Word of God.” (1 Peter 1:23)
By believing God’s Words, God puts you back into the garden again with His DNA. By believing God’s Words, God puts His Spirit in you again. By believing, you are given back God’s Holy Image… righteousness, godliness, light and love!
The power for your righteous transformation—your new birth as God’s good seed—comes through Jesus Christ’s life and words. Jesus Christ is the Word of God (the word become flesh, the words of God made manifest in the world). It is His Name (Revelation 19:13). God’s seed comes into you through the written Word of God. And it’s entirely a gift.
What does this have to do with parenting? With God’s DNA in you, you get to sow God’s good seed into your children. God’s seed includes God’s righteousness. God’s righteousness is the opposite of self-righteousness.
The serpent’s old lie is the seed of self-righteousness. It is the lie saying you must do something to qualify for God’s image. But God says working for your goodness or righteousness or success is impossible. And trying to convince your children to act good, right, successful will fail… because it’s based on the devil’s lie.
Why? Because God’s seed—His image—is a totally free gift. It’s His freely given new seed. It can only be germinated in you (and your children) when received as a gift apart from works of righteousness.
St. Paul wrote several letters trying to clarify this paradox. And St. Peter acknowledged this paradox is “hard to understand” (2 Peter 3:16).
God’s image inside you requires no self-creating self-righteous act. You do not need to eat of from some worldly-based knowledge of “goodandevil”. That is the devil’s fallen seed… the cursed seed that has the power to destroy the entire human race.
Jesus said, “If you don’t understand this first parable about SEED, how will you understand anything else I’m teaching?” (Mark 4:13) Cause for pause.
I think it’s time to put the teaching of SEED back into your parenting. With it you’ll stop modeling self-righteousness, and start modeling trust in God to gift you your goodness. You’ll show your children God makes them good because He puts Himself inside them. You’ll all be free from the burden of making yourselves “good”… which Jesus says is impossible.
Instead of seeing your generations carry anger or greed or lust or pride, you’ll get to see generations carry His righteousness, holiness, light and love.
You’ll truly understand Jesus’ light burden and easy yoke.
